The Lakota Sun Panel
Lakota Solar Enterprises’ (LSE’s) standard air-heating kit sells for $1,400 plus shipping and handling.
Installation brings the total to about $2,000. Because of the simplicity of the design, an entire system can be manufactured and installed by Henry Red Cloud and his crew in less than a day.
The primary components of a Lakota Sun Panel are —
- One 4-foot (1.2-meter) by 8-foot (2.4-meter)solar collector panel, with a black metal absorber plate covered by tempered glass with an aluminum frame. A layer of miro-therm, produced by Analod Solar (alanod-solar.com), is applied to the collector to maximize absorption.
- Wooden support stand, made of 2×4 and 4×4 lumber and some plywood.
- A 60-watt“squirrel cage”electric blower fitted with 6-inch-diameter (15-cm-diameter)
- An adjustable thermostat that automatically turns on when air in the collector reaches 110°F (43°C).
